About
Our Mission
Parsimony Investment Research’s primary mission is to educate individual investors. We believe that financial education is the key ingredient to creating, growing, and preserving wealth. Our goal is to provide you with the educational tools, analysis, and resources necessary to assist you with this endeavor.
Our Philosophy
“Make everything as simple as possible, but not simpler.” – Albert Einstein
Parsimony, by definition, means the adoption of the simplest assumption in the formulation of a theory or in the interpretation of data, especially in accordance with the rule of Ockham’s Razor.
At Parsimony Investment Research, we believe that investing can and should be SIMPLE. The more inputs (information) you use in your investing process, the more complicated it becomes. Complexity rarely yields superior results. The vast amount of financial information available today is literally infinite (most of which is just noise). Our goal is to try filter this information for you.
We believe in a “top-down” approach to investing, focusing first on big picture macroeconomic fundamentals and then breaking those components down to formulate an asset allocation strategy. Our belief is that asset allocation is by far the most important factor affecting long-term investment returns, which is why we tend to stay away from “stock-picking”. Too many investors waste time (and money) trying to pick individual stocks.
In addition to fundamental analysis, we also utilize technical analysis tools to assist us with our asset allocation decisions. We believe that using a combination of fundamental and technical analysis puts the odds of investing success in our favor.
Most importantly, we believe that all financial analysis (fundamental or technical) is essentially worthless unless you adhere to strict risk management principles.
